Over the weekend the South Dakota High School Activities Association held a season ending banquet in Mitchell to put the final touches on the 2018/2019 prep sports seasons.
Numerous awards, honors and scholarships were given out, with some very special awards coming at the very end.
Todd County Athletic Director Chuck Wilson was given the “Spirit of Influence Award.”

(This award, in honor of Bryan Brewer, is to recognize and honor the positive influence, vision, leadership and dedication to promoting athletics, academics, and the arts among South Dakota students of all races. It represents the innovation, belief, and expectation that all are created equal.)
Chuck Wilson has been the Activities Director at Todd County high school for 15 years. Prior to becoming the AD at Todd County, Wilson was the girls’ basketball coach. The Lady Falcons made one appearance in the state tournament in 2005. Wilson also served as the Elementary AD for Todd County and coached at the elementary level. Wilson has served on the Lakota Nation Board of Directors for the past ten years and is the President of the Lakota Nation Invitational.
Wilson also served on the SDHSAA Basketball Advisory Committee and Native American Advisory Committee. Wilson is currently on the SDHSAA State Basketball Tournament official’s selection committee and the Finance Advisory Committee.
He is a member of the South Dakota interscholastic Athletic Administrators Executive Committee.
Wilson was selected the 2003-2004 Region 8 Girls’ Basketball Coach of the year, Region 7 Athletic Director of the year in 2009-2010, and received the Distinguished Service Award from the SDHSAA as an Administrator.
Wilson has also been a registered Track official for ten years.
