The March 12, 2018 Student/Employee Hearing Meeting of the Todd County School District Board of Education was held in the Board Room of the Administration Building.
Board President Sandra K. Dillon called the meeting to order at 4 p.m. All motions carried unanimously, unless otherwise stated.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Board President Sandra K. Dillon, Vice President Debra Boyd, Member Melissa Whipple, Member Linda Bordeaux, Member Lavern Lanz
ADMINISTRATION PRESENT: Superintendent Karen Whitney, High School Principal George Shipley
STAFF PRESENT: Mindi Beel, Kristie Lindskov
OTHERS PRESENT: Attorney Rodney Freeman
Motion by Boyd, second by Bordeaux to adopt the agenda for the meeting.
Motion by Whipple, second by Bordeaux to appoint Rodney Freeman as Board Hearing Officer.
Motion by Whipple, second by Boyd to enter Executive Session at 4:01 p.m. for Student Hearing #1, in accordance with SDCL 1-25-2(2).
Student #1 and Mother present.
The President reconvened the meeting at 4:29 p.m.
Motion by Whipple, second by Bordeaux to uphold the Superintendent’s recommendation of expulsion for 12 months for Student #1 for a Class IV Violation, bringing a weapon to school and threatening an act of violence or an act dangerous to human life by threatening to use a weapon.
Motion by Whipple, second by Bordeaux to enter Executive Session at 4:32 p.m. for Employee Hearing, under SDCL 1-25-2(1).
The President reconvened the meeting at 5:02 p.m.
Motion by Bordeaux, second by Whipple to deny the Superintendent’s recommendation for termination, and to accept his resignation at the end of the 2017-18 School Year.
The meeting adjourned at 5:02 p.m.
