The March 12, 2018 Regular Meeting of the Todd County School District Board of Education was held in the Curriculum Center of the Administration Building.

Board President Sandra K. Dillon called the meeting to order with the Pledge of Allegiance, and asked for a moment of silence in memory of former TCHS Custodian Toby Herrmann, who passed away.

MEMBERS PRESENT: President Sandra K. Dillon, Vice President Debra Boyd, Member Melissa Whipple, Member Linda Bordeaux, Member Lavern Lanz

ADMINISTRATION PRESENT: Superintendent Karen Whitney, Business Manager Chad Blotsky, Public Relation Phyllis Littau

STAFF PRESENT: Tess Canet, Yancy Gunhammer, Betty Sokol, James Williams, Brian Brown, Sandra Hespe

OTHERS PRESENT: Sandee Mancini, Shelley Means, Bryan Burnette

Motion by Bordeaux, second by Whipple to adopt the agenda.

PUBLIC FORUM:

- Gerald Dillon, RST Drug Task Force Officer, requested funding for a drug dog.

- Shelley Means wanted to know how many applied for the Superintendent’s position, and how many were interviewed. She questioned why only two interviews were held and asked the Board to re-advertise the position.

- Jean Redfish questioned who evaluates the supplementals at the Middle School.

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT:

- The Strategic Plan for TCSD Facilities was given – new school building at Okreek, with completion expected for 2019-20 School Year; new school building at He Dog expected two years from start of construction; refurbishing projects for Todd County High School.

- Teacher of the Year finalists were Bryan Adams from the High School, Kaelee Krege from Middle School, and Carrie Hammer from Elementary.

- Nominations are now being taken for an Education Support Employee of the Year.

Motion by Whipple, second by Boyd to approve cost of an airline ticket for Todd County High School Senior Bryant Burnette to attend the Candidate Visit Weekend at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland March 22-14.

Motion by Whipple, second by Bordeaux to approve the donation request from Officer Dillon for the police service dog, in the amount of $2,500.

Board Member Whipple made a substitute motion to re-advertise the Superintendent position. (Vote 2-2-1) Whipple and Bordeaux yes, Lanz and Dillon no, Boyd abstained.

Motion by Lanz, second by Dillon to offer a 12-month, two-year contract to Dr. Peggy Diekhoff as Superintendent for the 2018-19 and 2019-20 School Years. Salary rate of $120,000 for the 2018-19 School Year and subsequent year to be determined. ( Vote 2-1-2) Lanz and Dillon yes, Whipple voted No, Boyd and Bordeaux abstained.

Whipple requested to wait to meet on Board Policies until the beginning of the next school year.

G. Motion by Whipple, second by Bordeaux to rescind the retirement of Patricia Battershaw. (Vote 0-5, motion failed)

H. Motion by Whipple, second by Boyd to offer Certified Contract to Patricia Battershaw. (Vote 0-5, motion failed).
